My grandmothers old school in the U District (Seattle) underwent renovations in 2016 with a ton of community input.  I served on the Advisory Council and worked with the University Heights staff to implement a variety of renovations to an upstairs Hall in this historic building.  Abbey Arts curates music events there along with a variety of theatre and community event partners i what is now an all ages music & arts venue.  https://www.uheightscenter.org/the-auditorium

This makes my day. I met Theaster when he was out in Seattle a couple years ago and had a good chat at Town Hall. See more photos & info here. Posted by Lonely Buildings on Facebook, via Colossal

Building community & connection at a new old building in Seattle. The new Ballard Homestead opened March 7, 2015 and it took 100′s of hours and many volunteers to make it possible.  Getting the new sign built (from the old workshop shelf), painted, and installed the week of the opening was a great moment for everyone involved.  We had people from age 3 to 73 helping out all week.
